Previously, we discovered, five WordPress web sites. As we continue our quest to understand we will probe more into what she has been doing with the Hostmonster services.
In our previous probe we logged into the cPanel, selected File Manager from the Files Services Menu, and determined that their were five WordPress sites, hosted on Yogine.org. Great, now we have more questions than we started with.
When we are awake in Naperville, Illinois, it is bedtime in Coimbatore, India. This morning, about 8:30 am, Sharmela is on Skype, she needs to prepare the evening meal, and I need eat breakfast. We also need to talk about web sites and SEO. We are able to start again at 9:30 am. The first site, in directory “blog” is to be kept the others are to be trashed. Excellent, now we have less questions that we started with.

Now we login to the Control Panel (cPanel) at Hostmonster and look for the Databases Services bar.
We click on the little down tab to open up the available services.

cPanel database bar
We select the phpMyAdmin services program.

Hostmonster database services
Notice that a username is required, to login to phpMyAdmin program. This username was generated from your domain name automatically by Hostmonster Services.

phpMyAdmin login
After the login completes, you now have total control over your database server. The only requirement is that you comprehend and understand how. Data Base Administrators are some of the highest paid technical experts on the planet. It will take a few years of education to be good at it. We may sometime later develop a coarse that will ground you in the basics, and then point out how to extend your education. It would require a nominal fee if we do this.

WordPress databases
We were only interested in the preliminary information contained in this service. First you see that there are 9 files that start with _wrd, _wrd02 is missing, otherwise there would be ten files. WordPress has been installed ten times, not five as we previously thought. We will remove all of them except the one in the blog directory.

Yogine Blog Login
Sharmela, authorized access her WordPress blog admin name and password. I created an administrator user with my name and password. Now the real _wrd..(11) file will have two admin users.
Now, using phpMyAdmin , querying each of the 9 database files, browsing the users tables, and finding the one that has me as one of the administrators. Allows me to state that this is the only WordPress database that we will keep.

WordPress database blog
The yogineor_wrd4 is the correct database for the blog we desire to keep, notice that sharmela and dee have user ID of 1 and 2, and our passwords are hidden by a hashing algorithm. We do not need this level of expertise to be effective web designers and exceptional Search Engine Optimizers.
This concludes our using the Control Panel (cPanel) services in our quest, obviously we have done absolutely nothing with the web design and Search Engine Optimization issues.
Next, we will dig into the WordPress DashBoard with the purpose of simplifying it so that we understand in a step by step logical way whether or not it will satisfy our quest in better web design and meet our needs for SEO.
Our Skype conversation ended, it looks like we will continue this tonight in Naperville, and in the morning if you are in Coimbatore!
Skype Log
- File manager WordPress Sites
- Files Bar
- account manager login
- cPanel Service Bars
Let’s look around in the services that Sharmela is using, by logging in Hostmonsters’ cPanel services as the Account Manager.

account manager login
After Hostmonster verifies that the login is valid, the cPanel (Control Panel) opens up. These cPanel service bars are in the main work area, and by clicking on the little down tab displayed on the files bar, the programs that allows you to work with your directories, sub-directories, and files will appear like an accordion opening up.
Fortunately, only the file manager holds our interest, we will use FireFox browser add on’s to provide more usable file management services. Note that when the Files bar opens the little down tab has changed to a little up tab. Clicking on it will close the Files. Also, The work area becomes very cluttered if all of the tabs are pressed for open and none of them are closed. You noticed that I closed all of them before starting this discussion.

This is part of the left half of the display presented by the file manager.

File manager WordPress Sites
By clicking on the little plus sign in front of the public_html folder, the yogine directories started to open up. After selectively clicking, we see the current directory addresses of blog, Football-Leagues, … and tshirts. These directories have been created by Sharmela, as she was led by curiosity. This same evidence is found in my directories after mucking around, trying to resolve problems. Yes, a test web site is essential to reduce the problems on your live site.
IMHO (In my humble opinion), use the file manager for observation purposes only. Getting in a ‘mell of a hess’ is easy.
We will use FireFTP, an add on service to our FireFox browser, to manage and update our Hostmonsters’ directories and domains.
We have discovered, that yogine.org appears to have 5 active WordPress web sites. To prove this we enter the url’s into our browser, and determine if the sites are currently active.
Previously, I entered the yogine.org url into my browser, but I was unable to determine how to help her with web site development and search engine optimization. We now have more pieces of the puzzle to work with but the solutions are obscure.
this is using screencast.com.
